Alvie F. (Pete) White, age 79, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Ochsner Northshore Medical Center in Slidell, Louisiana.
He was born and grew up in Water Valley, Mississippi. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi at Oxford and a huge Ole Miss fan. He also received a Master of Education Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and was an ordained Baptist minister.
He was a member of Goodyear Baptist Church where he led a bus ministry for many years. He also taught Sunday School Class and was recently honored as a Deacon Emeritus for his years of faithful service as a deacon.
Pete taught 7th grade science for many years at Picayune Jr. High. After retiring from teaching he became a licensed funeral director and was employed at Picayune Funeral Home for 26 years. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by two nephews; Thomas Mitchell and his wife, Maryanne, of Colleyville, Texas, and Dr. Kenneth Mitchell and his wife, Janet, of Austin, Texas; one niece, Sheila Cherry and her husband, Blair, of Lubbock, Texas; two great nephews, Dax Mitchell of Santa Monica, California and Michael Mitchell of Austin, Texas; two great nieces, Catherine Anne Cherry of Burleson, Texas and Lauren Mitchell of Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Owen and Evelyn Flowers White, lifelong residents of the Water Valley area; his wife, Irene Haggerton White; and his sister, Elva White Mitchell.
His visitation will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Goodyear Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Killian officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home, www. picayunefuneral.com.

Henrietta, Ted, & Nicholas Brewer and the staff of Picayune Funeral Home will miss our "Sweet Pete" and we know he will be missed by all who knew him.
