Alvin Elliot Lemmler

October 21, 1932 — April 5, 2023

Alvin Elliot Lemmler, 90, of Picayune, Mississippi, died on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Al was born in 1932 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Al enlisted in the military in 1951 and served as a petty officer second class in the medical department throughout the Korean War. After his four years of service as a medic, he was awarded a Korean Service Ribbon and a Navy Good Conduct Ribbon recognizing his “honorable and faithful” service.

Professionally, Al worked in the meat industry for more than twenty years, eventually owning and selling his own successful business which led to an early retirement and an opportunity to focus on other interests such as woodworking and spending time with family.

Al was a devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal service organization. Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to helping those in need, he provided communion calls to those unable to attend services and transported food for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was always available to help others, whether that be warmly welcoming congregants to the church as an usher or fixing flat tires and working odd jobs for widows as a good Samaritan. Known for his tireless efforts in maintaining the church facilities and grounds, Al often volunteered to patch, fix, or clean up any needs of the day. His selflessness and dedication to service were greatly appreciated by staff members and parishioners alike. In fact, in 2006, Al was bestowed with the Lumen Christi Award which is the “highest honor given to [Catholics] who radiate and reveal the light of Christ” to acknowledge tangible service and impact on his community,

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Philip Lemmler and Lucy Comeaux Lemmler; a son, Alvin E. Lemmler, Jr.; a brother, Philip H. Lemmler; two sisters, Dolores McCaleb; Rose Christine; two sisters-in-law; Carole Lemmler; Joan H. Lemmler; and two brothers-in-law, Joseph E. McCaleb, Sr. and Chris Christine.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joan Muth Lemmler; as well as a brother, Richard (Peggy) Lemmler; a stepson, Ferril (Brandi) St. Pierre; two stepdaughters, Allison (Mike) Prendergast and Michelle (Chad) Hanning; six step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church (1000 Goodyear Blvd, Picayune, MS, 39466) at 11:00 am on Friday, April 14, 2023. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Friday at the church.
