Charles James "Charlie" Rohrbacker Sr.

February 20, 1942 — April 15, 2025

Charles James “Charlie” Rohrbacker, Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, in Picayune, Mississippi.

Born on February 20, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Charlie was the son of George and Louise Rohrbacker. He grew up in a large and close-knit family as one of thirteen siblings. Over the years, he remained deeply connected to his roots and carried with him the values instilled during his early life. Charlie shared a devoted marriage of 55 years with his beloved wife, Donna Rohrbacker. Together they built a strong and loving family that became the center of his world. He was a proud father to six children: Darren Rohrbacker; Danielle Salazar and her husband Daniel; Graci Jordan and her husband Ronald; Charles Rohrbacker Jr.; Staci Jude Scarbrough and her ex-husband Shane Dillard Sr.; and Tony Rohrbacker and his wife Lynn. His legacy continues through thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy into his life. He also leaves behind extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louise Rohrbacker; all twelve of his siblings—Adele, Forrest, Huey, George, Lester, William, Francis, John, Joyce, Clare, Helen, and Joseph—as well as his great-grandson Grayson Cowart. Also, many nieces and nephews whose lives he touched over the years. Charlie spent his life deeply rooted in the city he loved. He built a remarkable career as a Master Mechanic and expert in body and paint work, dedicating over four decades to Behrens/Wren's in New Orleans. His craftsmanship was especially trusted by the New Orleans Police Department, where he specialized in maintaining and restoring their fleet. His skill and dedication were widely recognized—several vehicles he painted were showcased at the River Gate in New Orleans and proudly took home first-place honors.

Charlie’s passion for working on vehicles extended beyond his profession; it was a lifelong hobby that brought him joy and pride. Whether under the hood of a car or behind a grill cooking for his family, Charlie found fulfillment in hands-on work and caring for those around him. He had a special love for animals and treasured time spent fishing with his family.

Known for his warm heart and quick wit, Charlie had an uncanny ability to make people laugh. He delighted in telling jokes and lifting spirits wherever he went. Those who knew him remember his kindness, tireless work ethic, and unwavering devotion as a father, husband, and pawpaw.

He also found comfort in simple pleasures—watching old western movies was one of his favorite pastimes.

Charlie’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his humor, generosity, and love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
