David Wayne Burnette Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, at the age of 66.
David was born on May 9th, 1957, to the late Donald and Fannie Burnette Sr. The youngest of three sons, David remained a proud resident of the Millcreek Community until his passing. He married the love of his life, Betty, on June 17th, 1978, later welcoming two sons, David Wayne Burnette Jr. (Tiffany) and Taylor Raymond Burnette (Katie). David’s passion for the outdoors led him to a 30-year career with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries as a Conservation Officer. David’s love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love of family. Whether it was cheering his grandchildren on from the sidelines or purposefully rooting against their favorite professional team because he knew it drove them crazy, David was a devoted and much-loved Paw Paw that will be dearly missed. A friend to many, David’s antics were legendary. His door was always open and the cast of characters coming through and the banter that followed would give any TV sitcom a run for their money.
In addition to his parents, David was proceeded in death by his brother Curtis “Glenn” Burnette. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his brother, Donald E. Burnette Jr., his two sons David Wayne Burnette Jr. (Tiffany) and Taylor Raymond Burnette (Katie). He leaves behind five grandchildren Caleb Jospeh Burnette, Kylie Alexis Burnette, David “Makon” Burnette, Ann-Marie “Presleigh” Burnette, and Thomas Joseph Burnette as well as his great-grandson Aiden Joseph, son of Caleb. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will miss him dearly.
Services will be held Saturday, February 17th, 2024, at Picayune Funeral Home. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and share fond memories. Visitation will start at 11 am, Memorial Service at 1 pm, and graveside immediately following, at Lee’s Chapel No. 1 Baptist Church.
