Derek was born April 28, 1988 in Gulfport, MS. He was a United States Army Veteran and Drywall Installer.
He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Glen Hughes; paternal grandparents, Edward and Geneva Hughes; maternal grandfather, Richard Dix Frederick; maternal great grandfather, John Frederick; uncle, Ernest Frederick, aunt, Jacque (George) Percello; uncle, Nathan Dillard; and cousin, Laura Frederick.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Huss Hughes; children, Derek Glen Hughes, Jr., Dylan Hughes; mother, Anna (Albert Madison) Dobson; grandmother, Emma Frederick; brother, Kenneth Frederick; aunts, Irene Frederick, Karen Dillard; uncles, Richard John (Phyllis) Frederick; mother-in-law, Mae McClellan; and a host of cousins and extended family.
Memorial services will be held at Picayune Funeral Home (815 South Haugh Avenue, Picayune, MS, 39466) on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm. Burial will be private. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
