Don W. Armstrong

Don W. Armstrong, 84, of Poplarville, died on Monday, June 19, 2023.

Don was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He attended college at Clark College and William Carey College (was the oldest pitcher to have the most consecutive no-hitters during his enrollment), Played Semi-Pro Baseball, Taught and coached at Sky View Baptist School in Memphis, TN; Poplarville, PRC in Carriere. 10 years in the Ministry. Preached in Poplarville, Principal of First Baptist Church School in Pleasant Grove, AL, officiated countless wedding ceremonies. Deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church, Poplarville, MS.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Amy Lee Johnson and Ersy Lee Armstrong; two siblings, Jimmy Armstrong, Jean Barry; one son, David Armstrong; and two sons-in-law , Don Fields and Harold Saucier.

Survivors include his wife, Mary "Betty" Armstrong; two children, Sharon Fields, Lea (Shannon) Smith; seven grandchildren, Beth Fields, Amanda Saucier, Ashleigh (Kevin) Crow, Leslie Armstrong, Dain (Christie) Saucier, Eli (Abby) Saucier, Benjamin Armstrong; three siblings, Carol Whitson, Mary Jo Dunlap, Bobby Armstrong. A host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, some who knew him as Uncle Prince or Uncle BunBun. All of them heard the many stories of his “Underwater Basket Weaving” degree and how to play his special instrument; the “harpasodium”.

Memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church (203 South Main Street, Poplarville, MS, 39470) on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 am. Rev. Kipp Smith will officiate the service. Visitation will be 10:00 am until services. Marine Corps military honors will be performed at the church.
