Ethel Rider Herkes, a beloved matriarch, was born on July 24, 1930, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, in Picayune, Mississippi, surrounded by the love of her family.
Ethel dedicated her life to nurturing her loved ones, and her family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her cherished daughters, Anna H. Bordelon and Cheryl H. Caro (Doug), along with her five grandsons, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, all of whom were fortunate enough to bask in her warmth and affection.
Throughout her life, Ethel cherished her phone conversations with family and friends, forging deep connections and sharing her delightful spirit. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching her favorite soap operas and being with family. Ethel lived vibrantly until the end, always prioritizing the love and presence of her family.
She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Leon Henry Herkes, who she missed dearly; her parents, John Rider and Ozelia Oliver Rocco; her son, Leon Henry Herkes Jr.; her brother, John Baptist Rider; and her sisters, Anna Rider and Evelyn Rider Staley; and one grandson. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those she left behind.
The warmth that Ethel brought into the lives of her family and friends will be felt deeply. Her spirit will live on through the love she nurtured and the lives she touched.
