George A. O'Donnell Jr., of Carriere, MS, passed away at Ochsner Northshore Hospital on Friday, Feb.24 at the age of 76.
Beloved son of the late George A. and Elizabeth Marron O'Donnell, he was born on Sept.18, 1935, in New Orleans and attended St. Aloysius and Brother Martin High School. George joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1954 and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 while in the 1st 141 FA Battalion at Jackson Barracks. He was the longest tenured shop chief in Louisiana before moving to the Inspection Shop at Camp Beauregard. With his great personality and humorous demeanor, he arose in rank to Inspection Shop Chief where he retired after forty years of service, respectfully and affectionately, known as "King George".
Survived by three daughters, Patricia LeFerve (Mark), Sharon Hill (Don), and Carolyn Vinet; grandchildren Courtney Odom, Jonathan Morgan and Tucker Morgan; step-children Allen Humphrey, Lance Morgan (Joyce), and Jerri Lynn Hinton.
Left to cherish him in death as in life is his best friend, Henry Mang, along with many members of the La. Army National Guard. His constant companion in his later years, Amy J. Rogers, is left forever thankful for their time together. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, March 3, at Picayune Funeral Home 815 S. Haugh Ave., Picayune, MS; viewing from 10 to11 a.m. with funeral services to follow. Internment will take place at McLaurin Cemetery in McLaurin, MS at 1:00.
