Lee Russell Smith, age 88, died at his home in Henleyfield, Mississippi on Monday, August 2, 2010. He was born on March 22, 1922 to Jake and Jessie Smith and was a life-long resident of Pearl River County. He was a retired farmer and nursery grower and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Inez "Pete" Smith and by two children, Donald R. Smith and his wife, Kay, of Baton Rouge, LA and Rebecca Scogin of Picayune, MS. He is also survived by two sisters, Elsie Warren of Columbia, MS and Vernell Lewis of Picayune, MS; six grandchildren, Dr. Adrian Russell Smith (Jessica) of Jackson, MS, Lauren Marie Hensgens (Scott) and Gretchen Kay Petersen (Preston), both of Baton Rouge, LA, Holley Alicia Hahn of Picayune, MS, Allison Hillery Holcomb (Brian) of Washington, D.C., and Amanda Rebekah Leigh Scogin of Picayune, MS; and by eight great-grandchildren, Olivia Ansley Smith, Luke Russell Smith and Samuel Covington Smith of Jackson, MS, Thomas Claude Petersen and Caroline Scott Hensgens of Baton Rouge, LA, Jacob Joseph Hahn, James Matthew Hahn and Steven Taylor Kennedy of Picayune, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Graveside services will be held at Henleyfield Cemetery on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with Bro. Drew Dabbs officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Henleyfield Southern Baptist Church.
Friends and relatives of the family are invited to share their condolences with the family at the New Henleyfield Southern Baptist Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
