Born on May 9, 1937, Melvin grew up in Carriere and joined the Air Force in 1954 to serve 3 years during the Korean Conflict. After returning from service he married his loving wife of 55 years, Mavis Kennedy.
In 1969, Melvin was ordained as a deacon, the same years they moved to McNeill and he opened McNeill Auto Clinic.
In 1974, he joined the McNeill Fire Dept, where he spent the majority of his life as Fire Chief, caring and protecting, 24 hours a day.
Melvin was a mentor to many youth in his lifetime, a devoted Christian and charter member of Central Baptist Church, a loving husband, and the best Daddy and Paw- Paw that could ever be asked for.
He will be greatly missed but we understand that he had a call to respond to. Now he is 10-8 to glory!
