Ray Holloway of Poplarville, Mississippi passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the age of 102.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 203 South Main Street, Poplarville, Mississippi, with a meal to follow at 2:00 p.m.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He served his country proudly as an Army Air Corps Fighter Pilot during WW2, flying the P51 Mustang. He never gave up his love of flying and taught others about his passion throughout his life. Several of his grandchildren and one of his children carry on the flying legacy. There is a book that has been dedicated to him about airplanes written by his grandson. He was loved by many. He touched every life he connected with. His love for life and family was shown to the world every day.
He grew up in Virden, Illinois and went on to become a war veteran and entrepreneur. He owned an Oldsmobile Dealership and a Grain Elevator in Virden and an apartment complex in Tulsa. In 1972 he married the love of his life Beverly Ann Holloway and lived in Edinburg and later in Mission, Texas. They owned Holloway's Real Estate, W & I Resorts and Ray and Bev's Tours. They sure knew how to through a party for the winter Texans.
He was the son of Jesse and Anna Holloway who preceded him in death. He was preceded in death also by his wife Beverly Holloway, his sister Margurite Centko, and his brother who died in WW2, Henry Holloway. He is survived by his sister, Gertrude Ashford of Illinois; 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
