Richard Douglas Ahlers, age 74, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of McNeill, Mississippi, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 with his family by his side.
He was born on October 19, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was raised in the Bethlehem Children's Center and Lutheran Orphanage in New Orleans. He served in the United States Navy during Vietnam.
Richard loved making scrollwork clocks and other projects out of wood. He enjoyed photography, watching movies, listening to oldies music and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Louise "Holli" Ahlers Sutton.
He is survived by his daughter, Brandi Ahlers Kowalski and her husband Kevin of Macomb, Michigan; two grandchildren, Alexander and Sophia; two brothers, Harold Ahlers and his wife Debbie of Scott, Louisiana; Laron Calhoun and his wife Carol of Pflugerville, Texas; one brother-in-law, Steve Sutton of Slaughter, Louisiana; one sister, Violeta "Fay" Calhoun of Fort Myers, Florida.
Richard's visitation will be held, Monday, February 3, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home Chapel. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
