Richard Charles Stout of Picayune, Mississippi passed away at the age of 98 on Sunday, March 7, 2021.
Richard was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and was the youngest sibling of the family. He was only able to complete his education through the ninth grade as he was compelled to quit in order to help support the family when his father fell ill. Although he was unable to complete his education, he was an avid reader and always strived to continue to educate himself. During WWII, he voluntarily enlisted into the Navy to serve his country. He was deployed to the Pacific theatre where he was stationed on the island of New Caledonia (Nouvelle-Calédonie). Upon completion of his enlistment, he was honorably discharged and returned to Louisiana. After becoming settled, he married Esther Goudeau of Port Allen, LA. They initially made their home in New Orleans but eventually moved to Arabi, Louisiana to be close to his workplace. Unfortunately, a year later they experienced flooding from a hurricane, but that did not deter them from rebuilding and returning to their new home. Richard retired from Domino Sugar Refinery with 30 years of service as a Mechanical Foreman. Although retired, he enjoyed several part time jobs sharing his gift of mechanical knowledge with a younger generation for the next several years. He lost the love of his life after 51 years of marriage which for him was quite difficult to overcome, but he persevered. His home once again suffered flooding damage, this time quite substantial, from Hurricane Katrina. Shortly thereafter, he permanently relocated to Picayune, Mississippi to live out the rest of his years. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing was his passion. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his daughter, Esther Stout Rayborn; son-in-law Mickey Rayborn; and grandson, Mckay Rayborn.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther Goudeau Stout; parents, John Steven Stout and Sophie Arbor Stout; brothers, John Stout and Edwin Stout, and sister, Esther Stout Poulos.
