William “Bill” Robert Bender, passed away peacefully at the age of 82, Friday, April 26, 2024 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Bill was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and most recently resided in Bay St. Louis, MS at Dunbar Village. Bill spent most of his life between New Orleans, LA and Baton Rouge, LA before settling down in Mississippi with his daughter and her family. Bill was a 1959 high school graduate and joined the US Army shortly after graduation. Much of his service was spent in Germany. After his military tenure, he returned to New Orleans where he later married Mary “Princess” Michelli and ventured into a variety of careers from the Royal Orleans Hotel, Shell Oil, Miller Lite, Gordons Jewelers and eventually retired from the insurance industry, in Baton Rouge, LA, having earned a myriad of awards for his hard work and dedication. Bill enjoyed playing soccer, was an avid LSU fan, and absolutely loved Corvettes, having owned several throughout his lifetime. Cruising the Coast was one of his favorite annual events to attend. He loved watching car races!
He is preceded in death by his biological parents Milton and Helen Bender, and his foster parents Jimmy and Helen Blum Leach. Also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond C. Bender; sister, Marlene Bender Salvaggio; foster brother, Joey Ezell; brother-in-law, Joseph T. Michelli; niece, Jennifer Michelli Worley; nephew, Leighton Shaddinger, niece-in-law, Lola Shaddinger; great nephew, Shane Shaddinger and great niece, Bettye Shaddinger.
Bill is survived by his daughter Teresa Bender Robichaux (Scott), grandchildren Reece M. Robichaux, Alexis R. Wortmann (Mickey), great-grandchild Arthur C. “Mickey” Wortmann, V, former wife, Mary “Princess” M. Justice (Mark); brother-in-law, Jimmy A. Michelli, niece, Rae Ann B. Broussard (John); nephew, Mark Bender (Kristi); nephew, Irwin “Win” Shaddinger; niece, Jamie M. Colburn (David); niece, Stephanie M. Ludvigsen (Billy) and several great nieces and nephews.
The Bender/Robichaux family would like to thank both Dunbar Village and Notre Dame Hospice of MS for their support, love and care.
